Uptown Dance Center for Performing Artists is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing high‑quality dance education to children and families in a safe, nurturing, and culturally rooted environment. Founded in 1985 by Leta Tavares, Uptown offers ballet, tap, hip‑hop, acrobatics, and cultural dance while building confidence, discipline, creativity, and joy. Through scholarships and community‑based programs, we remove barriers to access and support the growth of the whole child—physically, mentally, and emotionally—while strengthening families and uplifting our community.

Our Classes

Uptown Dance Center for Performing Artists offers a variety of classes designed to support children at every stage of their dance journey. From early learning to focused training for older children and teens, our programs nurture confidence, creativity, and strong technique in a caring, family‑centered environment.

Our experienced instructors teach with patience, structure, and encouragement, helping students build discipline, coordination, and a lifelong love of dance. We offer instruction in Ballet, Tap, Hip‑hop, Acrobatics, Yoga and Ethnic dance, providing a supportive space where every child feels seen, valued, and inspired to grow.
